WHY HIRE AN INTERIOR DESIGNER
Value of an Interior Designer - Why hire one?
Often times, people feel like they can remodel their home without the help of a designer, especially for projects that seem simple — like a bathroom or a smaller kitchen space. While it may feel like skipping the step of working with a designer would save money, it may actually do the opposite. Working with a qualified designer who is well connected within your community and who has access to the top contractors and subcontractors in your area will save you both time and money! But how?
As a designer myself, I can tell you firsthand that you will be thankful you chose to invest in a designer at the very beginning. There are so many details that go into even the smallest of projects and a designer can eliminate a lot of the unforeseen mistakes and frustrations that may come with your remodel.
So often people come to me with a vision, but they are not sure just how to make it a reality. And that’s where I, or the designer you choose to work with, comes in! The purpose of a designer is not to turn your space over and have him or her create something for you. It is about collaborating with your designer so he or she can tell your story through the design while making your own personal vision come to life.
Here are a few things to consider when you are thinking about a remodel and whether you should hire an interior designer:
· Resources and contacts: you know the term “It’s all about who you know.” Well, this is true in the design world! An experienced designer will have access to resources and contacts that will not only save time and money but will also give you access to pieces you may not otherwise be able to get your hands on. A reputable designer will know your community well and will know where to get the highest quality materials, including flooring, cabinets, countertops, and backsplash.
· Budget: your designer will help you prioritize your budget and stick with it, so you do not find yourself in the hole after the project is complete. He or she will be able to estimate the cost of each step before the project begins and will help you stay on track.
· Avoid costly mistakes: a designer will have experience in designing and executing your vision and will help you avoid mistakes that can cost you a fortune!
· Increase the value of your home: a designer will help you create a space that is more functional and that will increase the value of your home.
· Style & Big picture ideas: This is key! A designer will help you see and create the big picture and will assist in you with tying all the materials together, this is where we make your vision come to life. She/he will help transform your entire space based on your style/s with all the material selections from- tile, hardware, stone, lighting, sinks, flooring, faucets, paint, cabinet type and door style, appliances, etc . Here’s just a few of many examples… Do you know what cabinet door style to chose (there are TONS)? What type of sink is perfect for your space-and material? What faucet will bring your kitchen to life-size, color, and style matter! Which size and style hardware do I chose? Which lighting to chose-pendent size, how many, placement, etc. Where might floating shelves aesthetically look best and serve to be functional, and what wood stain and size? How do I chose the grout color…even more which direction do lay the tile if i chose a subway, picket or diamond? Which color do you want to paint your walls to compliment your cabinets? There are SO many tiny details that often times are overlooked.
· Functionality of space: a skilled designer will be able to think outside the box and can completely change your space to make it more functional and useful.
· Construction knowledge: a skilled interior designer will have construction knowledge which can help you avoid unforeseen mistakes that occur when spaces are designed with a lack of construction knowledge.
· Liaison between client and contractor: your designer will act as your liaison, so you don’t have to worry about following up to see how things are coming along. It is important to keep in mind that things will always come up during the construction process. But if your designer is working with the right construction team, they can usually put fires out quick and work together to make the appropriate adjustments. Just this alone can save you a lot of time and frustration. In addition, your designer can go over and review the contractors estimates to make sure you are getting a fair price and will help you negotiate if needed.
· Wholesale pricing: a designer can save you a TON of money on material costs if he or she has a wholesale license and connections with reps. You may end up paying double or more in just the cost of materials if you purchase them on your own.
· Latest trends: your designer will be up to date on the latest trends and will have ideas for your space that you may never have even thought of.
· Product knowledge: a designer will have knowledge about all the products you want to work with and can help you choose the right products based on your individuals needs and plans.
· Reliable sources: your designer will help you get all the products for your space from the most reliable sources to ensure you get high quality results.
A quality designer brings a tremendous amount of value to your home. He or she will help you brainstorm on space layout and planning and will not only make your space “look” good, but will also make it feel good and function at its highest level.
When I work with clients, I take the time to get to know them, hear their individual story and really learn what makes them unique. I then take all of those things and help them create a space that represents their individual personality and vibe and ultimately make their dreams come true. I love helping people see the big picture and helping them create a beautiful and functional space they can feel happy and proud of for years to come.
If you are getting ready to remodel a space in your home, I encourage you to look into a designer who can help your project run smooth from start to finish! In the end this is your space and a skilled designer will help you see your vision through with the right team of people and the highest quality materials.
