Bringing the Outdoors INSIDE

Nature is a huge inspiration for me! One of my favorite ways to create warmth in a space is by bringing nature in. When we bring elements from the outside into our indoor space, it creates a sense of calm and peace and adds balance to what may feel like a “cold” room. For me, nature is one of the most beautiful, healing parts of life and by bringing pieces of it into our living or working space, it can ground us and make us feel inspired and connected to more than ourselves.

One thing I love to tell my clients is that you do not have to buy all your clippings at the local store. We have so many beautiful plants and trees around us…you can do this by stepping outside and clipping your own! There is a plethora of elements right here in San Diego or wherever you live.

You Can Find Beautiful Branches in Your Own Backyard!
One of the easiest ways to bring nature into your home or office space is to clip branches off the trees or bushes in your own backyard and put them in a glass vase or basket! Baskets add a more rustic feel while clear glass vases add a more contemporary feel. You can also do a combination of both!

Put Your Houseplants in Baskets to Create Warmth
A simple way to make a houseplant feel cozier is to throw it in a cute basket! Houseplants add so much love and balance to a space and bring vertical depth as well. Houseplants are a great way to incorporate nature into our lives and décor while keeping us connected to the natural world. I highly recommend adding a houseplant to every room…they can also help purify the air indoors!

Take Your Clippers on Your Next Hike!
Next time you go on a hike or walk, throw your clippers in your back pocket, and clip a few stems while you are hiking. I do this all the time and I pop them in vases on my kitchen and coffee tables. This is one of my favorite ways to bring nature in and every time I look at the clippings, I am reminded of the beauty I felt during my hike… plus its free!

 Make an In-Door Herb Garden
You can add greenery to your kitchen by creating a garden with fresh herbs that keep you healthy and inspire you to eat fresh, whole foods year-round. Some of the best herbs to grow indoors include mint, chives, lemongrass, basil, parsley, rosemary, sage, and thyme. Keep in mind herbs need a lot of sunlight to grow indoors, so make sure to put them near a window.

Bring in Driftwood!
Another idea is to use a piece of driftwood for your mantel or use it to create a DIY wall art. Driftwood is so gorgeous and each pieces has its own story to tell.

Decorate Your Walls with Paintings of Nature
Another way to stay connected with nature is to have beautiful representations right on your walls! This can be paintings of nature scenes or pictures of the ocean that you took yourself.

Any time you can bring nature inside, I highly recommend you do! Whether you throw a couple clippings in vases from your back yard or if you add a houseplant to every room, just those simple touches will add a sense of calm and balance to your space that will leave you feeling inspired and centered.
