Time to spruce up your home with fresh paint? Choosing the right paint can make all the difference. So, before you get started, I put together a few tips and tricks to help your paint project go smooth… I hope this helps, happy painting! Xo

·         Use colors that are in the color palette/scheme of your design/home. Some of my all-time favorite paint colors is Pure White from Sherwin Williams. and Simply White from Benjamin Moore. Two close seconds are Alabaster (Sherwin Williams) and Swiss Coffee (Benjamin Moore). l Iove how these white paint tones brightens the space and makes it fresh! Living in San Diego all these whites bring a beautiful coastal vibe!

·         When you choose your colors, pick at least 5-8 colors and start from dark to lightest when testing.

·         Place your materials (cabinets, stone countertop, backsplash, and flooring) next to the wall color before getting started to make sure everything flows.

·         Use minimum of two coats.

·         Paint test on white wall if possible. This allows you to see the true color.

·         Do this paint exercise in multiple rooms. The lighting will change the color so you will want to make sure you see it in every light.

·         Observe overnight and for at least 24 hours, the light will change at all times of the day/night.

·         Remember the paint you may love in your best friend’s house may look quite different in your home!

ALWAYS TEST! This will help you avoid hours of rework.

·         I suggest matching white walls with the same color trim and baseboards. This is the cleanest look!

·         I suggest using eggshell or low sheen on walls.

·         I usually use satin paint for trims and baseboards.

·         If you are painting your ceiling, you should use a flat paint.

·         Always use high quality paint! It is so worth it to invest in a more expensive, high quality paint. Not only will it look better, it will last longer and keep your space feeling fresh for years to come!

Want to paint a wall dark like black or dark green or blue? It can add depth to a room. You can make it a focus wall! This works well for tall walls (if the rooms are small it may confine the space and make it feel small).

A few of my favorite white paint colors are…

·         Swiss Coffee by Benjamin Moore: this is a go-to classic white and warm, creamy but not yellow.

·         Pure White by Sherwin Williams: a clean, fresh perfect white in my opinion.

·         Decorators White by Benjamin Moore: this one is great for contemporary settings and rooms with a lot of light/windows.

·         Alabaster by Sherwinn Williams: this one is a warm white and is great for bedrooms!

  • Simply White by Benjamin Moore- Love love LOVE, especially for kitchen cabinetry or overall house color-clean, crisp, and fresh!

Painting is the least expensive way to remodel a space or an entire home! You can totally do it on your own, just remember to take your time when choosing the color and always use high quality paint. Enjoy your project!
